Kingston LGBT Committee
Picture of Abby Name: Abby
Position: Womens Officer
Role: My role as the Women's Officer is to act alongside the Open Place Officer and run the society. We organise meetings and, events and ensure everything runs smoothly. Overall, my role is to make sure that all those who identify as women are fairly represented and receive equal rights in all LGBT matters in the society.
Bio: My name is Abby and I am a second year Geography student. I am from Northern Ireland but Kingston has become like home to me. I am a very calm and collected person which helps me to deal with problems logically, this i feel will help me a lot next year. The only weird thing I can think about myself is that I am obsessed with Fanta Orange, so if you see me around feel free to give me one :)

Picture of Jamie Name: Jamie
Position: Open Place Officer
Role: As Open Place Officer, I am co-president of the society alongside the Women's Officer. This co-presidency is vital in so far as we share responsibilities and ideas and it means both a male and female officer are present at committee meetings. Just as important is that I ensure all members and visitors to the society, be they part of the LGBT spectrum or not, feel safe and secure and free from discrimination in society meetings and at events. Finally, I want to make your time with Kingston LGBT both enjoyable and worthwhile.
Bio: Hi gang! I'm Jamie, I'll be a second year Journalism student at Penrhyn Road so you'll be able to recognise me walking around campus with my notebook and pen, thrusting them under people's noses! I have been a member of the society since September of last year and I've felt utterly at home here. I will always have time for members: past, present and future so if you just want a chat, I'm there. I like the unhealthy things in life; takeaways, drinking and smoking. I like to sing along to embarrassing songs and know far too much about the workings of public transport. Look forward to seeing you in the autumn!

Picture of Darcy Name: Darcy
Position: Secretary
Role: My name is Darcy, and I am this year's secretary for Kingston's LGBT. My main task as secretary will be in assisting the open place officer (Jamie) and women's officer (Abby) in organising events, taking minutes at committee meetings and I am also a confidant and available to any member if they need to discuss a problem or just wants to have a chat.
Bio: I was born and educated in Central London and I like to spend my free time reading, riding motorcycles, eating out and writing. At Kingston I study geography and geology or as it is less formally known as 'rocks and trees'. I enjoy being in the company of others whether it's just informally hanging out or debating current topics of interest. I have always been quite liberal and open minded but even though I am quite strong in my convictions I don't believe other attitudes can be changed purely by talking, but through leading by example. Finally, two things in that confuse me in life are jealousy and selfishness and one thing I cannot stand in others is arrogance.

Picture of Kelechi Name: Kelechi
Position: Treasurer
Role: As treasurer my role is to basically look after the money of the society and make sure it is being well spent on fun things for everyone to enjoy. I will also assist the open place and women's officer and act as a confidant for anyone who has ANY issues they need to talk about.
Bio: Hey people! I study sociology at Penrhyn road (where all the best people are), with the hope of joining the police, working as a fitness instructor. I'm a very social guy, I prefer working jobs that involve meeting people and being active. I love going out with my mates, meeting new people and having a good time. I love football, watching it or playing it and Man United are my favourite team = ]. I'm a bit of a kid, because I'm really into cartoons, especially anime, but you'll probably find me on my ps3 most of the time, playing Call of Duty, Pro Evolution (I hate FIFA) or Tekken. I going to try and make my role as the treasurer a more active role rather than just sitting down noting figures and all that boring stuff. It's my first year on the committee and I'm looking forward to meeting all the new students and showing them what our society is about. If you have any questions about my role or the society, feel free to email me. Peace x

Picture of Helen Name: Helen
Position: Straight Alliance Advisor
Role: To assist in the running and organisation of the society, with particular emphasis in forging good relations with others societies. Also to advise LGBT members on issues affecting them , regardless if it is LGBT related or not. Furthermore promote and campaign for the rights of the LGBT community.
Bio: Studying a Geography Bsc , going into my final year at Kingston University. Have hailed from a mixed heritage of Irish/Indian with a very libel upbringing, thus have always felt very strongly for LGBT rights (and about every person rights really!). Known as the "one who is most likely to have something to say" i also tend to have the worst jokes. I have a huge range of interests from reading and hiking to Surrey league level Table Tennis and really enjoy spending time with my lovely gaggle of friends. I'm extremely excited about advising the LGBT this year and have many ideas about fostering relations between other societies, amongst others a naked calendar!! Very approachable and always more than happy to listen or advise members on anything and everything from sexual health to which dress to wear : D.
